UUCOB Groups

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks is home to many diverse groups that meet on a regular or ongoing basis. One of the best ways to do get know people and become connected to our community is through groups and programs. This includes 'New to Unitarian Universalism' classes, monthly potluck suppers, church committee work, outreach programs, and spiritual practice groups like OBCUUPS.

Mens Group

UUCOB Men’s Group

The Men’s Group provides a mechanism for fellowship, discussion and learning for male members and friends. It meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month, 8:00 am, at the Meetinghouse.

Members take responsibility for topics or program on a rotating basis which may include (but are not limited to) current events, specialized interests, the environment, the arts, recreation, etc.

The typical meeting involves 5 to 6 members.  Topics have been diverse and have included globalization, politics, automobiles, books, religion in general and our UUA religion in particular.

For more information, contact Bob Green at 453-3955 or oceansands@charter.net

The largest of which is OBCUUPS, the Outer Banks Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans.

OBCUUPS

We embrace all positive paths and traditions that foster a supportive relationship with the earth and our fellow human beings.

OBCUUPS is an organization that is made up of Pagans, those who support Paganism, and any who are interested in the free expression of one's religious beliefs.

The national organization, called CUUPS, which stands for the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, is an Independent Affiliate Organization of the UUA as granted by the UUA Board of Trustees. Such granting is only done to those organizations whose "…purposes and intentions are found to be in sympathy with the principles of the UUA and who support the UUA by paying an annual contribution."

OBCUUPS is an illustration of what is best about being a Unitarian Universalist in that we allow for an independent development of one's own religious path and yet we are able to function together as a united Congregation.

Our local CUUPS group was formed about 3 years ago when the Board gave its blessing to form such a chapter here on the Outer Banks. It was founded by UUCOB members and requires that its leaders be members of both OBCUUPS and the local congregation. Also half of the offering that is taken at each of the meetings is given to the budgetary needs of UUCOB.

The group has steadily grown over this time and continues to meet on a monthly basis for rituals and workshops, which are open to all, Pagan and non-Pagan alike.

Our CUUPS group is eclectic in its paganism and is a firm supporter of our local congregation. In fact a significant part of the membership of our congregation is made up of Pagans.

You can find out more about the national level of CUUPS at their website, www.CUUPS.org.

For up-to-date calendar information, visit our calendar page and deselect all but the orange "CUUPS" box at the top of the calendar. Then you may scroll through the calendar showing only OBCUUPS events.

Chat with Pat: Lunch and Discussion

The Chat with Pat Lunch and Discussion Group is open to members, friends and newcomers. The Group meets at our Meeting House. Discussion topics range from Evolution to Myths. Contact the church for meeting information.

And More

Imagine a religion where people of different beliefs worship as one faith. Members whose positions on faith may be derived from a variety of religious beliefs: Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, naturist, atheist, or agnostic. Members who might tell you that they are religious humanists, liberal Christians, or world religionists. Imagine all these people, and others who label their beliefs still differently, who are committed to the practice of free religion. Imagine Unitarian Universalism.
