ECSU Jazz April 21

Each year UUCOB (Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks) presents a series of concerts to the public called “Music at the Meetinghouse” as fund raisers for their programs within the congregation and in the local community.  The ECSU Jazz Ensemble will be the second in the current series and we are very excited about bringing jazz to the Outer Banks and providing the students with an opportunity to play in public.

The concert is April 21 at 7:30 at the UU Meetinghouse on the corner of Kitty Hawk Rd and Herbert Perry Rd.  Doors open at 7:00 to allow people to come early to enjoy food, drink and socializing included in the admission price of $20 at the door.

The Elizabeth City State University Jazz Ensemble is the university’s big band musical ensemble dedicated to performing and experiencing jazz.  During the annual Elizabeth City State University Jazz Festival, the ensemble has shared the stage with: Jae Sinnett, Lesa Terry, Sean Jones, Marcus Anderson, The US Navy Commodores Jazz Band, Michael Dease and The Rhythm Project.  The annual K12 outreach Jazz concerts have been attended by hundreds of local and regional students.  The ensemble has received clinic funding from Yamaha Educational Division and sponsorships CenturyLink.  The ECSU Jazz Ensemble supports the Visual and Performing Arts mission with instruction in Jazz history, performance practices and pedagogy.

Associated Professor, Douglas A. Jackson is the ensemble’s director and is in his eleventh year on the Elizabeth City State‘s Visual and Performing Arts faculty. Mr. Jackson plays the trumpet and has Bachelor and Master Degrees in Music from California State University, Los Angeles.

Please join us for this opportunity to hear some exceptional jazz in a good listening environment and a chance to meet and socialize with friends.
