Don't think you have anything worthy of donating?

In case you were thinking, “I don’t have a service to donate” here are some ideas:

If you weave baskets, you can hold a lesson where everyone leaves with a small basket they created. The same goes with painting, pottery, sculpture, jewelry making/beading or other arts and crafts.

If you love cooking, you can hold a lesson/demonstration/dinner party where you teach 4 or 5 people how to prepare your favorite meal (and then everyone enjoys it together) or how to bake a great apple pie (for them to take home). Personal chef or catering services are a great idea, too.

If you did well in Algebra or Social Studies, you might offer up tutoring for an elementary, middle, or high school student.

Love hiking, bird watching, beach-walking? A guided tour would be great fun.

If you can tolerate it… host a kid’s “make-your-own-pizza” or “create-your-own-ice-cream-sundae” or “outdoor water fight” party. For the littler ones, a story time is a good idea.

Surfing, body boarding swimming or fishing lessons are an appropriate local gift.

Do you have a trade – carpentry, tile setting, landscaping, plumbing? Or some knowledge… can you be a legal advisor, insurance advisor, tax advisor?

Anything homemade is especially welcome – especially those made on request such as cakes, pies, casseroles, etc. Perhaps homemade cookies every month for a year?

Hold a “TASTING” – wines, cheeses, chocolates… pick your favorite and offer up 5 or 6 samples for discussion.

Like things spic-n-span? Offer to clean someone’s car or home.

If you are musical, an evening of entertainment is a good idea. You could play at someone else’s dinner party or other event.

Do you own a boat? A champagne boat ride at sunset on the sound, or a fishing trip for kids, or for grown-ups… Do you have a truck? Offer it up for moving something large.

Love to paint? Donate the painting of a room or two to someone with dreadfully white walls.

Handmade paintings, jewelry, rugs, etc. are a treasure!
Gift Wrapping! Some of us just cannot stand to do it. Maybe you can wrap 20 presents for someone this holiday season.

Change someone’s oil, rotate their tires, or perform other small automobile maintenance tasks.
